Literature Text

In moonlit night and cold encompassing
This chariot I wait in idles still
I huddle motionless in wintry coat
My eyes upward entranced by icy orb
My breath held fast inward approaching fear
And downward low spirals my frozen pulse
As graveyard tolling bells approach midnight
And skittering unbidden through my mind
A singsong verse intoning monstrous doom
Remember that "cursed chant" in Lon Chaney's "The Wolf Man"?
When I was a kid, I read it in a cheap word puzzle book
While waiting in the car in back Brusly(i.e. the sticks)
On a cold inky black night
Under the full moon
And I could hear
My
Heartbeat
Go
DOWN
